For those of you waiting on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus to finally hit Sprint, it looks like you'll just have a week to go. The first Android 4.0 device (but hardly the only one anymore) is now available for preorder for $199 on contract. And on the preorder page, Sprint clearly says the following (and has followed it up with an official announcement):

The first glasses-free 3D phone from HTC known as HTC EVO 3D is slated to be a ‘super cool’ and powerful smartphone that requires some serious attention.
With superlative specifications, HTC EVO 3D tries to bring a new dimension for viewing angle which makes the phone an adventure for early adopters. The original HTC EVO 4G which was launched in 2010 attracted many customers and more than 3.5 million HTC EVO 4G smartphones were shipped in US in 2010. Engadget says in its review that ?the EVO 3D is a well-made handset that improves upon the EVO 4G in terms of raw horsepower ? as such, it lives up to its flagship status.?
Now, HTC EVO 3D may be the answer for 2011 for HTC to foray into the top slot. The attention the new phone getting is amazing as it is already listed among top 5 Amazon bestsellers list, ahead of its launch. In fact, after Samsung Galaxy Tab, HTC EVO 3D is the only other product getting mixed reviews from different corners.
Here is a look at how HTC EVO 3D will fare compared to Samsung Galaxy S2 and Motorola Photon 4G.
Size: HTC EVO 3D has a dimension of 127 x 66 x 11.9 mm and weighs 170.1 g when compared to Galaxy S2?s 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm dimension and weighs 116 g. Motorola?s Phone has a dimension of 126.9 x 66.9 x 12.2 mm and weighs 158 g.
Display: All the three smartphones have 4.3-inch screen with EVO 3D and Photon 4G with 540 x 960 pixels resolution compared to Samsung phones 480 x 800 pixels resolution. Moreover, EVO 3D has 3D S-LCD capacitive touchscreen while Galaxy S2 comes with Super AMOLED Plus capacitive touchscreen and Photon 4G features TFT capacitive touchscreen.
Input features: The input features of HTC EVO 3D are multi-touch input method, touch-sensitive controls, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, gyro sensor and HTC Sense v3.0 UI. Samsung Galaxy has features like Gorilla Glass display, TouchWiz UI v4.0, multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, touch-sensitive controls, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and gyroscope sensor. The Motorola?s phone will have input features like multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and touch-sensitive controls.
Memory: The HTC?s smartphone will have 1 GB storage and 1 GB RAM compared to Galaxy S2?s 16GB/32GB storage and 1 GB RAM whereas Motorola?s phone comes with 16 GB storage, 1 GB RAM and 2 GB ROM. All these smartphones have up to 32 GB micro SD support but Galaxy S2 will have 8 GB included in it.
3G: In terms of 3G, EVO 3D will have HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps and HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps whereas Motorola?s phone will have Rev. A up to 3.1 Mbps with possible LTE support. Samsung Galaxy S2 will have HSDPA 21 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps support.
WLAN/Bluetooth/USB: As both Motorola Photon 4G and HTC EVO 3D is heading to Sprint, they will have Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot; WiMAX 802.16 e support along with microUSB version 2.0. But EVO 3D will have Bluetooth version 3.0 with A2DP and EDR whereas Photon 4G has version 2.0.
But Galaxy S2 has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 3.0 + HS and microUSB version 2.0.
Camera: Samsung?s and Motorola?s phone features 8-megapixel 3264×2448 pixels camera compared to HTC EVO 3D?s 5-megapixel 2560?1920 pixels camera. All the smartphones have autofocus and geo-tagging features.
HTC EVO 3D’s camera can capture stereoscopic photos (2-megapixel only) and videos. And it can also capture videos at 1080p (2D) and 720p (3D). Galaxy S2 has dual-LED flash feature similar to EVO 3D but can capture video at 1080p. There is 2-megapixel secondary camera in Galaxy S2, 1.3-megapixel in EVO 3D and VGA camera in Photon 4G.
Operating system: All the three smartphones will sport Android OS version 2.3 (Gingerbread).
Processor: Motorola Photon has 1 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 AP20H dual Core processor, Galaxy S2 comes with dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Mali-400MP GPU Orion chipset processor whereas HTC EVO 3D features 1.2 GHz dual-core Adreno 220 GPU Qualcomm MSM8660 chipset processor.
Battery: There is Li-Ion 1730 mAh battery in EVO 3D which gives close to 8 hours of talk time whereas Motorola?s handset with Li-Po 1700 mAh battery gives up to 9 hours of talk time. Samsung?s smartphone comes with Li-Ion 1650 mAh battery giving a talk time of 8 hours 40 minutes.
Other noticeable features: The Photon 4G has HDMI port whereas HTC and Samsung?s phones have TV-out (via MHL A/V link) feature and active noise cancellation with dedicated mic.
A review from CNET says ?The 3D features are a fun addition, but it?s the HTC Evo 3D?s zippy performance and improved battery life that make this Android smartphone one of Sprint?s best.? But Gizmodo has a different view as the review states: ?The Evo 4G was fun for people who wanted a bazooka in their pockets. The 3D?s only suitable for shooting yourself in the face.?
With mixed reviews and a hefty price tag of $199 from Sprint, even penny pinchers are pre-ordering the phone for a chance of getting their hands on the new 3D technology. Moreover, Wirefly has dropped the pre-order price of EVO 3D to $150, the lowest price tag for the phone from any vendor as of now. The phone is expected to be released on June 24.
