In the context of operating a car, the premium for a $1 million umbrella isn’t even noticeable. For one or two hundred dollars a year you get a team of insurance company claim adjusters and attorneys to represent you in court if you get sued. Much less expensive than hiring your own attorney. I accept that the chances of a large lawsuit against me is small, but it makes me feel better to know there is a policy that could pay a million dollars as well as attorney’s fees if something crazy happened.
Just a personal opinion. I don’t sell insurance. Good luck whatever you decide!

There’s also a completely different way to look at this. Forget about your net worth or your future income prospects, and consider you moral responsibility to pay for the harm that you do to others.
IMO, a strategy that says I don’t need to worry about it because I don’t have many assets and I can just declare bankruptcy is morally wrong. I don’t mean to sound sanctimonious, but it just seems a little irresponsible for a financial plan to include the risk of doing uncompensated harm to others, especially if that risk can be easily and inexpensively mitigated.
I understand that many folks are just barely getting by, and the added premium may be a real burden. Still, IMO the decision should be mostly about the potential for harm to others and ability to pay premiums to mitigate it.
Sure, as a side effect you might end up enriching ambulance chasers and the like, but that’s just a built-in cost of doing business.

But wouldn’t the presence of an umbrella insurance make you a more “sue-able” target?
For e.g. if it was some college kid with no assets and minimum liability payout, the victim might be less inclined to sue because not much money can be made and it may be too much of a hassle (especially if the incident involved was not too serious). But if the victim knew that the college kid had a 2 million umbrella, he will be encouraged to sue cause he can get as much a 2 million payout.
Does that make sense?

1. In respone to the original question, I think an umbrella policy makes sense even if actual assets are not currently large because it could protect you against a drain on future income, as well as some assets that might come your way (say an inheritance) before you got around to getting a policy.
2. As to having the policy making you more of a target, I think, though, that having the backing of an insurance company’s high powered lawyers behind you (actually the insurance company;s money) more than offsets the potentially higher risk. Someone seeing (if they could even find out) a $1 million umbrella policy would also know (or their attorneys would know) that the insurance company will fight hard to not pay out any significant portion of that $1 million frivolusly without real justification.
Anyone in the process of planning a party or occasion often faces an incredible amount of stresses and complications in the process. Many of these stresses and complications are made much more difficult when dealing with the specifics involving an event for a child as keeping the children and adults all entertained can become very difficult to keep up with. Choose the sort of tennis racquet, racquetball racquet, table tennis racket, or tennis equipment to acquire Used tennis racquet
As you are beginning to buy discount tennis racquets, squash rackets, ping pong rackets, and tennis supplies you want to know the kind of tennis racquet, squash racket, table tennis racket, and table tennis gear you are purchasing.
Your task could look easy, but doing this often is not. When you search for discount tennis racquets, racquetball racquets, table tennis rackets, and table tennis equipment, you usually have numerous choices to make before you choose the final tennis racquet, squash racquet, ping pong racket, or ping pong bag product that you think will meet your needs and desires.
Especially when you need to get a preferred type of tennis racquet, squash racket, table tennis paddle, or badminton accessory for your needs, it would be beneficial to think about whether you need a certain kind of bargain tennis racket, squash racquet, table tennis racket, or tennis practice equipment. Also you should determine what quality of tennis racket, squash racquet, table tennis racquet, or squash bag you want.
Except in the circumstance when the merchandise is such a low-cost bargain that the merchandise is not worth your valuable time to evaluate, you should always think carefully concerning the attributes you would benefit from in advance of finding the product. Your decision could include undertaking some level of investigation by talking to acquaintances and consulting information in cyberspace.
As you discuss opinions with a person who has an opinion about bargain tennis rackets, squash rackets, ping pong paddles, and table tennis equipment, be sure that their desires are akin to yours, when you discuss with them about their happiness with the merchandise. And, find out if they are sufficiently happy that they would buy the merchandise again.
While you do research by discussing opinions with salespersons in retail stores or by getting information on the Internet, evaluate if the evaluations are factual. A good method to decide whether you are acquiring objective information about tennis rackets, racquetball racquets, ping pong paddles, and badminton practice equipment is to look up a variety of places and to be satisfied if you have learned what is necessary in advance of when you lay out your money for the merchandise. Several evaluation sources will help understand better the more biased articles you may find in a single web page.
Choose how much you can spend on Butterfly table tennis equipment
With every product there are choices comparing price and quality. As an example, many tennis rackets, squash rackets, and ping pong rackets consist of better quality materials, but these types of higher grade tennis racquet, squash racket, ping pong racket, and racquetball accessory products very often are more expensive.
At the outset, you should determine what you can allocate out of your budget. Through sensibly deciding how important the merchandise is within your total budget, you will be able to more quickly focus in on the subset of merchandise that you reasonably can afford to pay for.
Evaluate not only the cost of the specific product alone, but additionally about any extra outlays that you might be required to incur though the use of this product. Since discounted tennis racquets, squash racquets, and ping pong rackets that you may buy are only a portion of the expenses of playing racquet games, then your total expenses of playing racket sports would be much greater.
However, even if you have enough money to acquire the highest cost product available, you should determine if buying the most expensive merchandise is really beneficial to you. Many tennis rackets, racquetball rackets, table tennis rackets, and other table tennis gear may offer lots of capabilities that might seem interesting, however you should decide if those are abilities which you actually want and need. If you buy something for high priced abilities which you do not need, then you are just tossing some of your money out the window. A cheaper thing could have done adequately.
In contrast, you may pay too little and get a product that will not adequately take care of your needs from different angles. The least expensive merchandise with a highly reduced price might be without the features you really need or the product might be shoddily made and, therefore, will not stand up to the task and will need to be bought again too soon. When a price is so cheap that it seems too good to be true, well maybe it is.
Also, understand before committing to the purchase what the terms are for returning the tennis racket, squash racquet, ping pong racket, or table tennis gear product and if it comes with any warranty. Although you might not receive the lowest possible cost, dealing with a trust worthy merchant providing a reasonable returns policy is often very useful. Usually only a small minority of all items which you get need to be returned, but evaluating your store?s product guarantees prior to when you buy can assist you after the purchase, if the product does not work.
What is the best place to buy a top racquetball glove?
Before anything else when searching, you should have direct access to a very broad selection of sales items in the more narrow category of merchandise that you are looking to get. Broad product access can be ensured, if the particular web page you are using taps into the very widest collection of sales merchandise which can be found.
Also, it is valuable to you to sort through the mass of items which are for sale to get only those which are exactly what you want to find. To shop for what you want easily, there should be an automated sorter that rapidly delivers what you want to find.
Any catalog page should make things easy for you. The leading approach to tackle this problem is to browse a page of photos of products so the searcher can decide visually and then decide whether the product might be a possibility. Doing this permits you to quickly eyeball potentially interesting merchandise, before you jump into the details. A superior approach is to have the chance to see your alternatives visually instead of being forced to move from one page of details to another.
Using pictures is how shopping was done in the past and has its advantages. People have always enjoyed scanning through graphics to choose what they want, when the catalog has a thorough contents list or a good index. Thus, a website is simply a new online approach similar to the color picture catalogs that were so prevalent in years past. We are happy to tell you that a pictorially oriented shopping site can allow you a lot more choices of discount tennis racquets, racquetball racquets, table tennis rackets, and tennis gear. Users are able to look for highly sought after products at greater discounts. With a pictures web page, costs are lower with no hardcopy catalog distribution costs.
Internet competition to receive your order means that you buy things that cost less. Vendors know that they must give you access to quality service and products, as they have to provide to you low prices or you are likely to simply buy from a competitor.
If you desire to buy the best tennis rackets, squash rackets, table tennis rackets, and squash accessories go here. This shopping website gives you the easiest, most efficient buying experience. The shopping pages of this product website display displays of colored pictures of a wide range of discount tennis racquets, racquetball racquets, table tennis paddles, and ping pong supplies items.
On this shopping site you can very rapidly evaluate a lot of competing sales products from competing vendors. Thereafter, you can get the most desirable merchandise at discounted prices. On top of all of this, you are able to get what you want at home from the delivery truck. When you do not have to travel, you save time and fuel compared to going between home and stores to find things you need in terms of the best tennis racquets, racquetball racquets, table tennis rackets, and squash gear. It is frustrating to deal with regular stores that are out of stock and this website can simply save you from wasted trips.

Even the best wood furniture will get scratches and cracks in it over time, and while you probably already know to rub it down with some wood polish or oil to help smooth out minor cracks, a dab of mayonnaise is perfect for cracks in the wood, according to blog DIY Life.
Of course, this will only work for small cracks, but smooth mayonnaise over the crack to fill it, wipe off any extra, and let the crack sit for a few days. According to DIY Life, the oils and proteins in the mayonnaise will make the wood swell up at the point of contact, and while it likely won’t close the crack entirely, it’ll definitely shrink. When it’s swelled shut a bit, you can then wipe off anything left behind and polish the wood to obscure the crack.
This is just one of five wood repair tips in the article, but it’s definitely one of the most unorthodox (and a little gross.) It’s likely the same principle that has people using mayonaise to remove water marks from wood (though apparently toothpaste is the better tool for the job) Have you tried this with an old wooden dresser or chair? Answers to your questions about the news.By Brian PalmerPosted Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at 5:47 PM ET
A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Virginia on Tuesday, with shaking felt in Washington, D.C., New York City, and all the way to New England. The East Coast doesn’t get many serious earthquakes. Are building standards more lax in Washington, D.C., than they are in San Francisco or Los Angeles?
Yes. The International Building Code’s seismic provisions apply across the United States, but the specific requirements vary based on seismic hazard maps. Using extremely detailed data on the location of fault lines, seismic history, and the composition of the earth in a particular area, the code sets a maximum acceleration that buildings in that zone must be able to withstand. The standards are meant to account for a quake so strong that it should only occur once in a 500-year period.
For the Los Angeles area, the code sets a maximum acceleration of 2.49 Gs, or 2.49 times the acceleration of gravity. The relationship between earthquake intensity and building acceleration depends on several factors, including the height of the building and the distance from the epicenter, but that kind of acceleration would likely require an earthquake of around 8.0 on the Richter scale. The maximum acceleration for New York State is just 0.59 Gs. You can find the data on your location using ZIP code or longitude and latitude coordinates at the United States Geological Survey website.
What does this mean for an architect or civil engineer? Buildings must contain seismic resistance areas that can absorb the force of the maximum foreseeable earthquake. If you’re putting up a relatively short structure in New York, you might be able to satisfy that requirement by building the external walls of hollow cinderblocks stuck together with mortar. In Los Angeles, an unreinforced masonry building would never be allowed. At the very least, you’d need to run steel rails through the gaps in the cinderblocks, fill the rest of the space with mortar, and add a few horizontal steel bars across the floors of the building. In especially seismically active areas, more sophisticated design is required.
If you work in the Empire State Building or the Chrysler building and today’s earthquake has you worried, breathe easy. Skyscrapers are built to withstand high winds, which in most cases apply stronger lateral forces than any quake that’s likely to strike Gotham.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.?? Google Inc. has agreed to pay $500 million to settle a U.S. government investigation into the Internet search leader’s distribution of online ads from Canadian pharmacies illegally selling prescription and non-prescription drugs to American consumers, a U.S. attorney in Rhode Island said Wednesday.
The settlement means the Internet search leader will not face criminal prosecution for accusations that it improperly profited from ads promoting Canadian pharmacies that illegally imported drugs into the United States, U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha said.
The $500 million represents the gross revenues Google collected in ad buys from the Canadian pharmacies, plus the earnings generated from the illegal sales of drugs to American consumers, federal investigators said.

Federal officials also say Google knew as early as 2003 that its ad system was allowing Canadian pharmacies to make illegal sales. These transactions included the sale of prescription drugs without prescriptions from a licensed medical practitioner, federal prosecutors said.
Shipping prescription drugs into the U.S. from abroad violates drug and other laws, investigators said. Prescription drugs shipped into the U.S. from Canada are not subject to oversight by Canadian regulatory authorities and many sell drugs from countries with inadequate pharmacy regulations, prosecutors said.
The investigation laid bare how vulnerable the company’s automated ad system known as AdWords is to the machinations of shady operators. The ad network is a major money maker for Google and is expected to generate more than $30 billion in revenue this year.
Google acknowledged holes in its ad system in a federal lawsuit filed last fall against dozens of “rogue” online pharmacies that were finding ways to place ads for drugs despite the company’s efforts to prevent abuses. The individuals identified in the complaint were in New York, Tennessee and Ohio.
In one of the more common practices, the illicit drug dealers would plug subtle misspellings of drug names frequently entered into Google’s search engine to generate ads alongside the results. For instance, one illegal drug advertiser spelled the anabolic steroid Dianabol as “Diano bol” in Google’s automated system to produce an ad, according to the lawsuit in San Jose federal court.
Google has obtained court orders banning some of the rogue pharmacies named in the lawsuit and is still seeking injunctions against the others.
Rhode Island has aggressively investigated doping activities recently. Last year, the Chinese company GeneScience Pharmaceutical Co. and its CEO pleaded guilty to selling human growth hormone and agreed to pay $7.5 million.
The Google lawsuit came seven months after the Internet search leader imposed new restrictions on the kinds of pharmaceutical ads it would accept in the U.S. and Canada. The new rules were supposed to allows ads only from U.S. pharmacies that had been accredited by a special program run by the National Association Boards of Pharmacy. In Canada, the accreditation had to come from the Canadian International Pharmacy Association.
Google’s critics have complained in the past that the company and other websites haven’t been vigilant about policing pharmaceutical ads because they are so lucrative. Drug and health care advertising generated about $1 billion in Internet spending last year and is expected to grow to nearly $1.9 billion by 2015, according to the research firm eMarketer Inc.
The agreement also ends speculation that began in May when the company made a reference in its quarterly filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission to a Justice Department investigation into the usage of Google’s automated system for placing ads alongside search results and other content at hundreds of thousands of websites. Google had raised even more intrigue by subtracting $500 million from its first-quarter earnings to cover a potential settlement.

Earlier this month we wanted to treat ourselves to a nice lunch at a good restaurant and Emmax came to mind. We parked without any difficulty close to the promenade in Playa Honda even though the weekly Saturday rastro market had just finished, we were in luck there was a table available in the shade on the terrace.
Because Emmax have a daily specials board you can be sure of a tempting selection of different dishes each time you visit depending upon what?s fresh and in season. This restaurant is owned by Max and Mortiz, they specialise in Italian cuisine with an Asian fusion, there is always homemade pasta, fresh fish, meat and vegetarian options on their menu.
Miguel ordered tagliatelle with beef strips and decided on the mustard sauce from the options given, I asked for the pork fillet wellington style with mushrooms and truffle oil. Two seeded rolls and a homemade dill sauce were brought out to the table along with our drinks.
?
There is a fabulous view from the terrace at Emmax, the sea is just a few metres away, there are lots of people passing by as well as the planes landing and taking off from Arrecife airport in the distance. We watched the last stall holder from the second hand market pack his goods back into his van with not an inch to spare, then our food arrived.
I was served a full pork fillet which had been rolled with mushrooms into the pastry casing, this was cut into two and served on a bed of ratatouille, it was cooked to perfection and simply stunning. Miguel said that his dish had been beautifully cooked, there was a surprising amount of beef which was very tender and the mustard sauce gave the pasta a spicy kick.
Sadly faultless food was marred by poor service, something I was not expecting from Emmax. As the food arrived we asked for a second drink which was never brought to the table. We waited some 20 minutes after requesting the bill and had to go inside to remind the waiter who did apologetically say he?d forgotten us.
Price wise, the main dishes were ?14 each, I thought the drinks were reasonable at ?1.50 ? ?2.00 for a coca cola, water and coffee and we weren?t charged for the missing drink. There was a charge for the bread of ?2 and we received a chupito of our choice with the bill.
Still one of my favourite restaurants in Lanzarote and we?ll be back for more fabulous food in Playa Honda.

Summitt surprised the sports world with her announcement Tuesday that she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia ? the Alzheimer’s type. The Hall of Fame coach appeared stoic during a minute-long video posted on the school’s website.
“I plan to continue to be your coach,” the 59-year-old said in the video. “Obviously, I realize I may have some limitations with this condition since there will be some good days and some bad days.”
There is no cure for the disease and even Summitt’s icy glare that has struck fear in many an opponent, official or Lady Vols player, won’t be able to stop its advances.
Still she said she won’t have her time at Tennessee turn into a “pity party.”
Summitt isn’t sure how much longer she will coach only saying that she would do it “as long as the good Lord is willing”.
Before Tuesday’s news, Summitt was trying to figure out a way to end a three-year drought of missing the Final Four ? one of the longest in her 37-year tenure at the school. She does have one of the top recruiting classes coming in this year as freshmen.
She met with her team Tuesday to discuss her diagnosis. Junior guard Taber Spani said the meeting was businesslike, with Summitt telling the Lady Vols nothing would get in the way for their quest of a ninth national title this season.
“It’s shocking, just because you don’t expect that to happen to someone you look up to,” Spani said. “I admire her, and just seeing her just gave me more confidence in her as a coach. We’re going to rally.”
Summitt will rely more on her assistants ? Holly Warlick, Dean Lockwood and Mickie DeMoss ? but they aren’t sure exactly how things may change.
“We’re here to help Pat as far as coaching and will help this program continue its tradition. And I’m here for Pat as a friend,” Warlick said. “I know she’s going to be here coaching, but she is quick to say this is Tennessee basketball. We’re going to carry on the tradition no matter what.”
Warlick said Summitt also wanted to crush any speculation about her health after the announcement.
“We got on the phone immediately and called kids and commitments and had nothing but a huge amount of support,” Warlick said. “I think it’s one thing to see it on the (TV news) ticker. It’s another thing to hear from Pat Summitt that we’re here, we’re going to be here and nothing is going to change about Tennessee basketball.”
Summitt’s family and closest confidants have known about her condition since she first learned of it, but the Hall of Fame coach first revealed the news publicly to the Washington Post and Knoxville News Sentinel.
She also told her former players early Tuesday morning.
“As a player, we know coach is the type who’s not going to give up. She’s going to fight, she’s going to do everything she can,” said Michelle Snow, who played for Tennessee from 1998-2002. “She’s probably going to be the best patient they ever had. She’s a fighter and she’s been through a lot. She knows how to fight and she’s going to continue to do that.”
As the stunning news swept across the women’s basketball world Tuesday, the reaction was simple: she’ll meet the disease head on.
Indiana Fever coach Lin Dunn first met Summitt 40 years ago at Tennessee-Martin. The two used to play softball in the summer together and were sorority sisters. She was floored this morning when she got the phone call with the news.
“My first reaction was tremendous respect, how she was publicly acknowledging this disease. I know how tough minded she is, tremendous perseverance,” Dunn said by phone. “She will bring national attention to this disease and she can spearhead a move to try and fight it.”
That sentiment was echoed by former Lady Vols star Candace Parker.
“I don’t think she is going to let it affect her,” the Los Angeles Sparks star said. “I think she is going to continue on coaching as long as she can. She came out with (the news) and now we’re going to move forward.”
Summitt’s biggest rival, Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma was shocked and saddened by the news.
“You don’t necessarily associate dementia with people our age, so this announcement really put things in perspective,” he said.
Summitt has won eight national titles at Tennessee and is 29 victories short of 1,100 ? that would give her 200 more than former Texas coach Jody Conradt, who is No. 2 on the list.
“It always seemed she had no vulnerability,” Conradt said. “She’s the solid rock everyone looked up to. … I’m very happy she’s not going to walk off the court at this point. When you have made it your life, there needs to be transition.”
Summitt has been bothered for a while by rheumatoid arthritis. Tennessee athletics director Joan Cronan said that the coach initially chalked up her memory problems to side effects from medicine she was taking to treat it.
The coach first consulted local doctors, who recommended she undergo a more extensive evaluation. In May, she traveled to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where doctors performed a spinal tap and other tests that eventually produced the diagnosis.
Summitt’s first reaction was anger, but that soon gave way to determination.
“She’s ready to fight this and move on,” Cronan said. “She had to come to grips with how she wanted to face it.”
Talking about it was a big step and her son Tyler was instrumental in making that happen.
“Tyler has been so courageous in this,” Summitt’s longtime associate head coach Holly Warlick said. “He encouraged her to come forward.”
Tyler has been supporting his mother throughout this process; he went to the Mayo Clinic with her in May. And though he has been a great sounding board, the 20-year-old said his mom’s revelation is a life lesson for everyone.
“It seems like she teaches me something new everyday, and she is currently giving me one of the best life lessons of all: to have the courage to be open, honest, and face the truth,” he said. “This will be a new chapter for my mom and I, and we will continue to work as a team like we always have done.”
